Our team builder beat three in four of the top 10k

Our free tool, the Implied Fantasy team builder, picks the best £100m squad from the odds. At the Gameweek 7 deadline its squad was expected to score 64. It scored 76: 17 more than the average manager, more than the eleven most-owned players with the same captain, and more than 78% of a 1,000-manager sample from the top 10k, counting first elevens only. Brighton's 5-0 win over Crystal Palace did much of the work: Charalampos Kostoulas scored 12 and Luka Vušković 11, and the market had both at under 10% owned. The picks that let it down were Rayan Cherki, who did not play, and Antoine Semenyo, who played 13 minutes and has since been ruled out with a knee injury.

The Implied Fantasy team builder's starting eleven at the Gameweek 7 deadline, with the points each scored. Haaland was the captain. Build this week's squad.

Captain

The market's captain was Erling Haaland: 61% to score at home to Ipswich and 7.6 expected points, 15.2 with the armband. He scored twice and took three bonus points: 13 points, 26 as captain. He was the crowd's captain too, so the pick kept you level with most managers rather than ahead of them.

The market's eleven against the most-owned eleven

Take the eleven players with the highest expected points in a legal formation, with no budget and no captain: they scored 54. The eleven most-owned players in the same shape scored 46. The Gameweek 7 team of the week shows both elevens.

Clean sheets

Four of the six clubs the market rated most likely to keep a clean sheet did. All five clubs rated 17% or lower conceded, Crystal Palace five times. The clean sheets page has this week's chances.

What the numbers missed

The two biggest scores came from players the market rated modestly. Pedro Neto scored twice at Everton for 15 points from 3.4 expected points and a 17% chance to score; Yasin Ayari scored 13 for Brighton, also from 3.4. A 17% chance happens about one week in six, so single gameweeks will always throw these up. Across the 303 players who appeared, our expected points were 2.1 points from the real score on average. The track record keeps every gameweek's numbers.
