Semenyo out for eight weeks: what to do with £8.3m

FPL moved Antoine Semenyo to 0% with a knee injury, and his manager says it could be eight weeks. That is seven gameweeks. Here is what the data shows and where the market puts his money.

Figures as of Tuesday 20 October, 13:30 UK

What FPL has said

Semenyo came off after 13 minutes at home to Ipswich in Gameweek 7, scoring one point. FPL first marked him doubtful at 75%, then on Monday afternoon changed the flag to injured, 0% chance of playing, with the note "knee injury, unknown return date". That is everything the game itself has said.

What has been reported

Enzo Maresca told reporters it could be eight weeks for the left knee injury Semenyo picked up against Ipswich, BBC Sport reported on Monday. If that holds, he misses Gameweeks 8 to 14 and returns around Gameweek 15, in mid-December, with City's busy Christmas run straight after. Injury timescales often slip, and FPL will keep him at 0% until the club says otherwise, so treat mid-December as the earliest, not the expected, date.

What he was worth

He was having the season the market expected. Before the Ipswich game the bookmakers made him 34% to score and 31% to assist, worth 5.5 expected points, which put him third among all players for Gameweek 7 and in every one of our three builder squads. Across the season he has 2 goals and 3 assists in 553 minutes for 37 points at £8.3m, owned by 13% of managers overall and 12% of the top 10,000.

What managers are doing

The exits started before the flag changed. 179,000 managers have sold him this gameweek against 6,000 buying, and ownership has slipped from 13.9% on Monday morning to 13.0% by Monday night. FPL's price counter has him 28% of the way to a fall, so a drop at tonight's midnight update is not yet projected, but the counter moves fast on a player with no return date.

Where the market puts the money

The Gameweek 8 midfield prices are in. Within a pound of his £8.3m, the market's best are both at Manchester United, at home to Bournemouth: Matheus Cunha on 4.5 expected points and owned by only 6.7% of managers, and Bryan Mbeumo on 4.4. Morgan Rogers is next on 4.3 at home to Spurs, and Declan Rice 3.8 at home to Everton. Rayan Cherki, the like-for-like swap at City, is 3.5 away at Villa with a 79% start chance.

Assist markets have not opened yet, so creators are under-rated in these numbers until later in the week. If you want the swap for your own squad, Rate my team suggests one for every player you own.
